RAINSTAR
160
sistahhhhs
A light frost had formed a thin film of a blanket over the IceClan camp while the warriors slept. Each thick-pelted cat had a fine layer of ice on the tips of their fur, making them appear two shades lighter than they actually were. For example, Rainstar, a silver and white cat, seemed to be completely white, like her mother and brother. Giving a harsh sigh, the leader swiftly groomed her pelt. It was something of a routine to IceClan cats. Clean in the morning, share tongues at sunhigh, groom before bed.
Rainstar got the frost off of her pelt, assuring herself a warm day, and stood. She left her leader's den, then, feeling nostalgic, padded to the warrior's den. Stepping coolly over Cloudspark's sleeping form, she nudged the gray tabby pelt of Sparrowclaw. "Wake up, sleepy-mouse," she whispered, the air freezing in front of her muzzle. "Let's go hunt."

Sparrowclaw was in the middle of a nice dream, she had found a flower patch and was batting at the stem of the purple plant, in real life her tail flickering up and down and the she-cat purring rather loudly. Her paws kneaded her nest, and her eyes were shut in a blissful sleep before a voice spoke, and the tabby opened one of her eyes reluctantly. "Hmm?" She softly mewed, her jaw hanging open afterwards in a small yawn before Sparrowclaw glanced up towards the source of the voice. It was her sister of course, and she blinked silently in greeting. "Let's go hunt." Rainstar mewed, and the she-cat gave a light smile before stretching her body out, her tail curling up before she pushed herself to her paws with a grunt. "Alright, let's go." She said softly, not bothering to clean her pelt. She could do that afterwards, and besides, it didn't really bother her that much and made her blend in while hunting. Of course, a shorthaired tabby that was a brighter color would stick out either way, and the thought make her chuckle lightly. The pretty warrior had stopped her kneading, of course, for she wasn't sleeping and it would be a bit odd. But she was purring very faintly, the dream still fresh in her mind. That's the only thing she didn't like about her cold home: The lack of flowers.

RAINSTAR
177
wake up, slepy kat!!1!
Rainstar took a few paces backwards, watching as Sparrowclaw woke up. Rainstar looked back on her earlier muse of grooming rituals: that was one stereotype that Sparrowclaw had managed to slip out of. Rainstar had never dwelled on it as a kit, but once her litter had discovered that they were half-clan, Rainstar had realized that Sparrowclaw got her uncharacteristically short pelt from their TideClan father. She imagined that the shorthaired warrior might be a little cold during IceClan blizzards, but Sparrowclaw had been living with it for moons, no need to have a hare about it now.
"I was thinking we should try down by the NightClan border," she meowed in a low tone, leading the pair out of the den. "I haven't sent a patrol there in a few days on purpose. Nettlestar told me that if you left them on their own, mice tend to flourish there in late leaf fall. There's all sorts of little warm hollows for them to hide in."

Sparrowclaw wiggled her hind legs to wake them up, looking at her sibling and letting her speak. "I was thinking we should try down by the NightClan border," she meowed in a low tone, leading the pair out of the den. "I haven't sent a patrol there in a few days on purpose. Nettlestar told me that if you left them on their own, mice tend to flourish there in late leaf fall. There's all sorts of little warm hollows for them to hide in." Rainstar said, and she gave a light purr. "Well, that's always good, the apprentices look like they wouldn't mind a few mice, they're as skinny as a stick!" She joked. Well, not just them, the whole clan was always a bit skinny, since most food wasn't easy to catch. But mouse would always be a great picker-upper, and when fresh and warm food came in, it was often devoured quite quickly. She almost drooled at the thought, but then the clan eats first and she wouldn't be the one to break tradition. Her tail flickered and she glanced upwards, towards the entrance of the den before giving a light purr. "C'mon, let's go." The silver and white warrior mewed before padding out of the den. It was slightly cold but the weather never bothered her, despite most of her coat being short and only a few spots actually bushy enough to stay warm. She'd grown up used to it, and why would she start being bothered now? Her eyes flickered towards the side of the dens, and her tail twitched in thought for a moment before she continued to pad on. RAINSTAR
186
here we see the rare playful rain
Rainstar gave a warm purr, brushing her tail fondly over Sparrowclaw's flank. "Oh, the apprentices have always been twiggy here," she meowed, glancing at the sleeping cluster of pelts in the young cat's den. "Don't you remember when we were that age? If we'd gone any higher up the mountain than our mentors let us, we'd have been blown straight off the peak!"
With a chuckle, the two silver-and-white she-cats left camp, and Rainstar's pace accelerated into a sort of brisk trot. She loved her territory. In the mornings, the snow had settled like a glassy lake, and the world seemed like it was asleep.
The ground began to slope underpaw, but not enough to cause discomfort. Rainstar glanced at Sparrowclaw, and said, "How is everything with you? I've only been leader for six moons, and I feel like we haven't talked at all."
She fell silent for a moment, then glanced mischievously at Sparrowclaw. "Any toms you've got your eye on?" She meowed teasingly, scooping a spray of snow at her sister.

Sparrowclaw snorted as her sister brushed her tail against her flank, and the warrior gave a grin. "It's a good thing though, we're thriving and the other clans are used to always having full bellies, so when Leaf- Bare comes around they sit and complain. But it's always Leaf-Bare here, and no one is bothered to complain as long as they hunt, they're good! " She said, cocking her head to the side as she looked towards her sister. As the two started to walk, the she-cat's tail bouncing elegantly at her heels, she turned her attention back to her sibling as she started to speak. "How is everything with you? I've only been leader for six moons, and I feel like we haven't talked at all." Rainstar asked, and she gave a snort. "The same old, same old." She said. "Any toms you've got your eye on?" The leader asked, causing her to snort and getting splattered with slush as the ball hit her. "Oh jeez, no! How about you, Rainstar? Anyone got your eye?" She laughed back before throwing a mound of snow back, her tail flickering happily. It was nice to be with her sister, it was family of course. RAINSTAR
207
gloomy rain is now
Rainstar's ears twitched spitefully as Sparrowclaw returned the teasing laugh. She played it off with a snort. "No, I don't- it wouldn't be fair to the poor tom. 'Oh, hello, I like you, you like me, let's be mates. Oh wait! I have pressing social responsibilities and no time for you. Sorry!'"
Shaking her head, Rainstar skirted around a tree. "No, I think I'll stay single," she mused, her voice lowering as her thoughts drifted. To be completely honest, Rainstar didn't want to be in a relationship with anyone. She disliked the idea of trusting someone else as completely as she trusted herself, but also, she was afraid that she would fall in love with the wrong cat, just like her mother. It was better to stay alone, Rainstar thought.
She jumped onto a boulder, her tail curling over her back. She peered into the sprinkled pockets of oak and pine trees that dotted the territory border, creating a physically blurry line. She cocked her head, contemplating the sight, emitting soft chirps as she saw a bird take flight. "Into the woods, then," she said briskly, closing the rest of the distance. "I guess we start sniffing."
